• Thank you, MC Teachers!

    Posted by AB on 7/1/2020

Most importantly, while I did learn these important values and skills in AVID, it could not have been done without the teachers. I’ve taken classes multiple times, all with different teachers, and I’ve learned that the quality of a class comes down to its instructors. This program really would not be where it is without the supportive and engaging teachers and staff that it has, and I am grateful to have had experienced this program. I can confidently say that I am more prepared than a large number of my peers, and it's all thanks to the wonderful and supportive environment that Middle College has created. Thank you again for helping me get to where I am today. - Hashim (FHS '20)

  • Ready for a 4 Year!

    Posted by AB on 6/26/2020
Because of Middle College I am now comfortable in the adult learning environment and confident in my ability to learn in one. I can adjust my note-taking to fit the class and make sure I set time aside to prepare myself for class. I also feel comfortable approaching professors to ask questions. I think if I was going straight to a four year from my home high school, I would be unprepared for this environment and really struggle with adjusting and perform poorly in my first semester.

  • Its about the learning!

My education became less about completing a course and more about learning as much as I could from each course. - Serena D (GHS '20)

  • Relationships & Support

    Posted by AB on 6/2/2020

Being able to experience being in a college environment early on while also having the support of Middle College was an incredible experience. Being immersed into the college and independent environment always scared me, but having the relationships and support of the teachers in Middle college was truly priceless.

  • High School vs. College

    Posted by AB on 5/29/2020
In high school, the students learn because they have to, but in college, students learn because they want to.I have realized that I love that kind of atmosphere and any anxiety I might have felt about attending college classes has completely disappeared.

  • Learning Alongside Others

    Posted by AB on 5/29/2020

Tutorials and other group learning activities have made me feel more comfortable sharing my confusion and learning alongside others, and has made it easier for me to solve problems with others’ help. I’ve also had to work with people very unlike me in age and experience in my college classes, so it’s given me a lot of experience in working with others and participating so everyone can learn together.

  • There is Purpose in the Process

Posted by Amy Brown on 5/29/2020
I used to be motivated by receiving validation for doing a task or look forward to only the outcome. I now gain my motivation by summarizing the steps I have to take in order to get where I want to go. I try to find purpose in the process rather than solely focusing on the end result.

  • It's OK to Ask for Help

Posted by Amy Brown on 5/29/2020
When I first got to Middle College, this was my main problem, I thought I could do it myself... But I was wrong. I’ve learned that it is ok to ask for help and that the teacher and Middle College staff are there to help you when you need it.

  • Different Ways of Learning

    Posted by AB on 5/29/2020

Middle College gave me a safe place to try out different ways of approaching independent learning. Because of this, I feel prepared enough for the rest of my education.

  • Tutoring!

    Posted by AB on 5/29/2020
I’m glad Middle College introduced me to the opportunities of a college campus. I was able to have access to the college's tutorial center and tutors when I needed them, which I wouldn’t have gotten if I were still back at my home high school.
